New Year, New Stuff

Welcome to 2014, ya'll. Let's hope it's a good one. Even though it's only been about three short weeks since the last post, there's lots to see and hear. On December 13th Simon fell while running down a ramp at daycare and cut open his chin. Good thing mommy is a short walk away. She came with some dermabond and all was well in the world. Here's a little shot of her handywork. There's ALWAYS something underneath those shelves. Taken December 14th. Another new creation. Same day. Later that morning, while I was still chasing my dreams of becoming a professional tennis player, mommy took the kids to a birthday party for Aiden Brown. Aiden is the son of Dustin, who is one of Rachel's partners at work. After the party was over. This is the best part. Later that night before bed. Eliot has followed in his brother's footsteps in terms of having a great laugh. From December 17th. One of his new Hanukkah/birthday presents. And you see his little injury is getting better. A couple of minutes later. And onto December 20th. And we've started to practice winking. The next morning. Nice positioning by E to watch something on tv. And you'll notice they both have their "apple bars" firmly secured. How nice. Nice job on this one, SOL. Taken a little later in the morning. The 21st was also the day we celebrated Simon's 4th -- can you believe it, 4th already!!! -- birthday party. He had to look sharp, so before the party he had a few hairs cut. But we weren't done; product had to be administered as well. After the cutting, we went to Racine to pick up the cake and then had lunch at the Noodles & Co. in Kenosha. O&H Bakery did a terrific job on the design. And it tasted good, too! The party was held at Ultimate Gymnastics in Gurnee. A fun time was had by all. We tried to get E to sit still for a picture, but that's tough. Simon tried his best to help also. Eventually we had to move on. We were so grateful GG & Papa could make it, and it was only a few days after they celebrated their 65th anniversary! The next morning, getting ready for Grandma Fran's arrival. Well look who can do fishy-face now? Saba and Nana couldn't make the party, so they stopped by for a mini-celebration. And what did they bring with them? And of course there's always more Hot Wheels items you can procure. Mommy was on call on Christmas Eve, but that didn't stop us. Simon and I tackled the Map-of-the-World puzzle. It's 252 pieces! We did it in about two hours. After Eliot went to sleep that night, Simon and I visited mommy at the hospital. Theo stayed home with Eliot (oh yeah, Grandma Fran was there, too). After mommy got home the next morning, and had some breakfast, we took the kids to the hill around the corner from our house. I took Simon here last year and he didn't love it. This year was much different. And thanks to our friend, Dr. Jill Tydell, for the awesome sled! On the kid's actual birthday (how long have we been celebrating this thing for already?!?!?) we had to finish off the head with Grandma Fran and Mima. But the cake wasn't that exciting because I got Simon a new launcher for his Hot Wheels set. More presents. Now back to work Saturday morning. Success. And now it's time for the inaugural Laven family snowman! Frosty can take a while to build, so we had to entertain the children during the construction. But he turned out not half bad. My eyes just well up when I see how much they love each other. Every year Vernon Hills puts on an amazing holiday light show on an old estate. Buckle your seatbelts...Simon got just a little excited. Everybody loves their devices in our household. From Sunday morning. Later that night. Who knew throwing balls back and forth could be so funny? Finally, two things: first, thanks to Grandma Fran for all of her help during the last week. I was relieved of a few of my domestic duties for a spell, and it was much appreciated. And second, have a wonderful time with Tia in Houston, mommy and Simon!
