We're back from Lake Tahoe. Rach and I counted that this was our sixth visit, and it is never unimpressive.
Before the photos, we want to give a big thank you to Great Aunt Karen, Great Uncle Bunk, Saba and Nana for giving us a great week as well as being wonderful helpers for Simon.
(Note: some photos you'll recognize from my posts during the week. I am re-posting them because you'll now be able to click on them for enlargement).
We arrived in Tahoe very late Saturday night/Sunday morning, so no photos that day.
The next morning we went out for a walk and ended up at Lakeside Beach on the south side of the lake.
We have to give big props to the Marriott Timber Lodge for having a great playroom for kids. Simon was in there almost every day. This was later in the day on Sunday.
Thanks to Grandma Fun for sending Simon this awesome Twins sweatshirt. This was taken Monday morning in the room.
Our fridge at home has the freezer on the bottom, so Simon has never been able to take advantage of this space. Things work differently in Tahoe.
Also on Monday all of us decided to caravan around the the lake. I believe it's 72 miles round trip. I learned a lot of interesting things as we were driving because of a cd the hotel lent us that has a local narrating the various things to take note of while driving around.
We stopped for lunch in Truckee, NV.
Anyone who remembers the early sixties should recognize this.
Leaving the hotel/casino. Look at those smiles!
Sometimes the background and ambient light is so perfect that you don't need to be a professional photographer or have a great camera to get a terrific shot.
Brother and sister, and after knowing each other for just under 64 years they still get along! How nice.
Tuesday morning we took Simon on his first bike ride. Well, he got to ride in a trailer while I did all the work. He'll make it up to me someday.
Part of the bike ride took us through Camp Richardson. Sound familiar? Well, anyone who attended our wedding might recall that we had our rehearsal dinner there. We stopped at the general store to pick up some lunch.
We had lunch at Baldwin Beach.
It was a tough day at the office.
That night we all had a nice dinner at the Stateline Brewery.
Wednesday morning. Same s***, different day.
We had plans to do some more things outside on Wednesday, but the weather did not exactly cooperate (i.e. SNOW!).
Therefore, we decided to hang out in the room.
Oh, the juxtaposition: people and ducks sharing the pool while snowing.
But you know the saying, "The sun shines on a dog's a**...". And Thursday morning we had to make a break for it. The pool was a little chilly for my taste, but the hot tub was nice.
Saba was very helpful as always.
Simon took a very nice nap on Thursday afternoon, which allowed Mommy and me to sneak out for a mini date/late lunch at the Fresh Ketch in the Tahoe Keys.
Thursday night all of us, sans Simon, had dinner on the 18th floor of Harrah's. A big thank you goes out to Rabbi Jonathan (he married us) of Temple Bat Yam who referred us to a very nice young man named Travis, who babysat.
These are some of the best shots of the whole week.
Friday morning Mommy and I headed to Squaw Valley for a little skiing. Skiing? During Memorial Day weekend? Yes, it's true. The conditions were not the greatest, but we still got out there. And the 1960 Winter Olympics were held there, for crying out loud, so how could we not check it out?
These photos were taken on the cable car after we finished.
It was so windy that Rachel bought a bandana to help cover her face. She almost passed for the alpine version of John Dillinger.
As Great Uncle Bunk would say, "Way Cool!"
Oh, but the day of calf/quadriceps pain was not over. On our drive back around the lake we stopped at Emerald Bay and hiked down to Vikingsholm.
Then we made a quick visit to Eagle Falls, which was a short hike from Emerald Bay.
Can you pick me out in this shot?
A little easier here...
The conditions didn't allow me to get the postcard shots, but they still turned out ok, all things considered.
At dinner Friday night.
Finally, I want to thank the Blackjack tables at Harrah's for helping to pay for the trip.
